Late last evening, an urgent call prompted a swift response from our center to rescue a long-tailed macaque involved in a car accident near the Bayon Temple area. The young female, known as Elfie, was found unable to walk and had taken refuge in a nearby forest. Our dedicated rescue team successfully transported her to our facility, where she initially received veterinary care for her injuries.
Tragically, Elfie's condition has since taken a critical turn. An X-ray conducted by our veterinary team revealed two serious injuries: an old broken hip bone and a new injury involving spinal cord damage. Unfortunately, these injuries are irreversible, and surgery is not a viable option. To alleviate her pain and discomfort, our veterinary staff has provided Elfie with medication.

Currently, Elfie remains in a crouched position and is unable to move comfortably. We are closely monitoring her ability to urinate and defecate, as a loss of this function could lead to the consideration of humane euthanasia. Despite the challenging prognosis, our team is committed to providing Elfie with compassionate care and ensuring her comfort during this difficult time.
