In a heartfelt update, we bring you the latest on baby Victor, the monkey whose health has sparked community concern. After an injury raised questions about its cause, our team conducted a thorough investigation. It was found that Victor’s mother, Viola, faced complications following his birth on December 3, 2023, retaining her placenta for several days. This not only endangered her health but also affected her milk production, leading to Victor's malnutrition.

On December 12, 2023, urgent reports emerged regarding a starving baby monkey at Bayon Temple—Victor. Upon his arrival at our rehabilitation center, he was in critical condition, largely unresponsive. Immediate care, including hydration and nutritional support, has since led to notable improvements in his health.

A comprehensive examination, including x-rays, uncovered a spinal cord injury in Victor's lower back, alongside issues related to malnutrition and excess gas in his stomach. Initially, he showed no movement in his back legs or tail, but there is newfound hope as he begins to exhibit signs of recovery. Victor has started physical therapy, and we are encouraged to see some movement in his legs and tail. While he sleeps frequently—a crucial part of his healing—he remains active and alert when awake.

Victor's appetite is steadily improving, and he is now successfully using his bladder and bowels, alleviating some discomfort from gas. Our commitment to his recovery encompasses nutritious meals, physical therapy, and comprehensive supportive care. Although he is comfortable and shows no signs of pain—only voicing his discontent when seeking attention—he is still unable to stand or walk on his own. He uses his arms to navigate and is practicing climbing on a small tree.

It remains uncertain whether Victor will regain full mobility, but our team is dedicated to his rehabilitation through daily exercises and therapy sessions. We appreciate your patience and support as we monitor Victor’s condition and will continue to provide updates on his progress.
